1682 Karel (1949 PH) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on August 2, 1949 by K. Reinmuth at Heidelberg. It was named after Karel van Houten, son of Dutch astronomers Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld.[1]
