• February 4 – Battle of Qarabagh in Arran (Caucasus): The Aq Qoyunlu under Uzun Hassan defeat the Timurids of Samarkand under Abu Sa'id Mirza resulting in the latter's capture and execution (by Yadgar Muhammad Mirza) and abandonment of Timurid claims on Persia.
• July 13 – King James III of Scotland marries Margaret of Denmark (age 13) at Holyrood Abbey in Edinburgh, acquiring the Orkney and Shetland Islands from Denmark (the Kalmar Union) in lieu of dowry. Although intended as a temporary measure, they will remain perpetually under the Scottish crown.
• July 26 – Battle of Edgecote Moor in England: The House of Lancaster defeats the House of York.
• October 19 – Infante Ferdinand of Aragon marries Infanta Isabella of Castile. This event will lead to a unified Spain in 1492.
• December 3 – Lorenzo de' Medici and his brother Giuliano de' Medici succeed their father, Piero di Cosimo de' Medici, as de facto rulers of the Republic of Florence.
