Íñigo López Montaña (born 23 July 1982) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Celta de Vigo on loan from PAOK F.C. as a central defender.
Club career
Born in Logroño, La Rioja, López began his career with Atlético Madrid B in Segunda División B in 2004, going on to spend six seasons in the category, his next club being Madrid neighbours UD San Sebastián de los Reyes. In 2007 he signed for another team in the community, AD Alcorcón, appearing in 35 league games his first year (five goals) but only five in the following.
In the 2009–10 campaign López was again a regular starter for Alcorcón, and scored a career-best seven goals as the club promoted to Segunda División for the first time ever. He also took part in the memorable Alcorconazo in the season's Copa del Rey round-of-32, in which the team secured the most famous victory in its history after defeating Real Madrid 4–0 at home (4–1 on aggregate).
In the summer of 2010 López joined Granada CF in the second division,[1] and achieved a second consecutive promotion (also the second in a row for the Andalusians) while contributing with four goals. He made his debut in La Liga on 1 October 2011 in a 0–1 away loss against Valencia CF,[2] and contributed with four goals during the season – two of those in narrow wins over Athletic Bilbao (1–0, away)[3] and Málaga CF (2–1, at home)[4]– as the club retained its league status.
On 19 June 2013, 30-year-old López moved abroad for the first time, signing a two-year contract with PAOK F.C. in the Superleague Greece.[5]
Personal
López's older brother, Jorge, is also a footballer. A midfielder, he won one national championship with Valencia CF, and also appeared in several top flight seasons for Villarreal CF and Real Zaragoza.[6]
