Šahovec is a small village to the east of Dobrnič in the Trebnje municipality in eastern Slovenia. The area is part of the historical region of Lower Carniola. The municipality is now included in the Southeast Slovenia statistical region.[2]

The local church is dedicated to the Holy Spirit and belongs to the Dobrnič parish. It is first mentioned in written documents dating to 1526 and was extensively remodelled in the Baroque style in the earlz 18th century.[3]
