ZocDoc

ZocDoc is an online medical appointment booking service.[1] ZocDoc users search for doctors, dentists, and other health care providers by insurance type and location.[2] After viewing doctors’ verified credentials, photos and reviews from other patients, users choose an available time slot from a doctor's schedule and book an appointment through the ZocDoc website, the ZocDoc iPhone app, or the Android app.[3][4]

Company history

New York City-based ZocDoc was founded in 2007 by Cyrus Massoumi, Oliver Kharraz, M.D., and Nick Ganju.[5] The website was launched at the TechCrunch40 conference in 2007.[6] At the time, scheduling was limited to Manhattan.[7] [8] As of November 28, 2011, the service was in thirteen U.S. metropolitan areas.[9]

Finances

ZocDoc is free for patients.[10] The service generates revenue by charging doctors a monthly fee to be listed.[11] In 2008, the company raised $5 million in a Series A funding round led by Khosla Ventures, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.[12] Two years later, ZocDoc secured an additional $15 million from a group of investors that included the Founders Fund and ‘Super Angel’ Ron Conway.[12] DST invested $50 million in the company in August 2011.[13]

Recognition

Crain's New York Business named ZocDoc the 'Best Place to Work in New York City' in 2010.[14] The company also received the Forbes 2008 'Boost Your Business' award[15] and CNET's 'Webware 100' award in 2009.[16]
