Zauggenried is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
Zauggenried has an area of 3.7 km2 (1.4 sq mi). Of this area, 69.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 24.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 5.7% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.8%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[3]
Zauggenried has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 319.[1] As of 2007[update], 1.9% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 8%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (99.0%), with French being second most common (0.3%) and Portuguese being third (0.3%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 43.2% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (17.7%), the Green Party (12.9%) and the FDP (9.4%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 24.6% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 58.5% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 16.9%. In Zauggenried about 81.1% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Zauggenried has an unemployment rate of 0.15%. As of 2005[update], there were 57 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 13 businesses involved in this sector. No one is employed in the secondary sector. 28 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 9 businesses in this sector.[3]
