Club career

Aberdeen

Diamond graduated from Aberdeen's youth squad and became a first team regular after making his senior debut during the 2003–04 season.

On 18 January 2009, he achieved the feat of scoring twice against Celtic in an SPL match at Pittodrie which Aberdeen won 4–2.[1]

In October 2010 Aberdeen FC confirmed that Diamond and team mate Michael Paton had been disciplined for a Facebook conversation between the pair during the Pope's visit to Scotland in which they made sectarian jokes about the pontiff killing Protestants with his Popemobile. The club stated that the players had been dealt with internally and that no further action would be taken.[2]

On 2 March 2011, it was rumoured that Diamond might sign a pre-contract agreement with Hearts, as his contract expired after the 2010/11 season. This fell through due to him failing a medical[3] when the offer from Hearts was withdrawn due to doubts about Diamond's long-term fitness.[4]

Oldham Athletic

On 13 July 2011 Zander Diamond signed a one year contract with Oldham Athletic.[5] His first goal for the club on 30 July 2011 came with a headed goal against Fleetwood Town in a pre - season friendly, which Oldham Athletic A.F.C. went on to win 1-0.[6] He made his competitive club debut on the first day of the 2011-12 season, starting the Football League match against Sheffield United.[7] Manager Paul Dickov made an early recognition of his potential value to the club when he made him first team captain after club captain Dean Furman was found to need corrective surgery for a hernia after just three matches of the season.

International career

Diamond has captained the Scottish Under-21 international side, winning 12 caps between 2004 and 2006.
