In 2005, Mathurin Ducastelle and Frédéric Mahé, two former AOL directors,[1] founded Yakaz and launched a vertical search engine dedicated to classified ads. Yakaz was fully revamped in fall 2010, offering much more than a search engine to its 15 million monthly unique visitors, including ad posting and instant messaging.[2] Yakaz totally changed its interface (and its logo), adding many features to the original project developed five years before.
Originally available in ten countries (the United States, France, Britain, Australia, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Germany, Chile and Italy) Yakaz is now available across all countries of the world and in 50 languages.
The new version of Yakaz enables users to search, but also to post ads, get in touch with other users through an instant messaging tool, and figure out who they can rely on.
Using an interactive map to find listings, users can network with each other via instant messaging tools. A recommendation system allows users to know who they can rely on.
Yakaz is the combination of a tool for an intuitive community messaging and a vertical search engine that provides real-time results.[3]
Technologies used by Yakaz include:
Yakaz's search technology is based on Exalead.
Yakaz is available on iPhone and on Android through dedicated applications.
