XHFO-FM, also called Universal Stereo, is a radio station that plays music from the 1950s through to the 1980s in the English language to listeners in Mexico. The station is operated by Grupo Radio Centro, under an operation contract with Grupo Siete Comunicación, which owns the station's license.
Universal Stereo is a Mexican radio station format that began on 1974, originally being on XEQR-FM 107.3 MHz, and specializing in English adult contemporary music from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, including genres such as classic rock, disco, ballads and New Wave. The station also plays some adult contemporary music from the 1990s and 2000s. The station was created by Adolfo Fernández Zepeda, "La Voz Universal", who has served as the station's manager and official voice since its inception. In 1998, the station was moved to the 92.1 MHz frequency adopting its current callsign.
Universal Stereo has had big success since its creation because of people who lived in the sixties and seventies looking for memories in the past and also new generations that like this kind of music. Among the bands and artists that air on the station are: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Mamas and The Papas, Herman's Hermits, The Monkees, Tommy James & The Shondells, The Bee Gees, Tony Orlando and Dawn, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Paul Anka, Queen, Carlos Santana, Yellowstone and Voice, Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Carole King, Billy Joel, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Michael Bolton, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, U2, Def Leppard, Metallica, Aerosmith, Nirvana, Robbie Williams and Adele. It's transmitted via FM 24-hours a day.
