Węgajty [vɛnˈɡai̯tɨ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Jonkowo, within Olsztyn County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland.[1] It lies approximately 3 kilometres (2 mi) west of Jonkowo and 16 km (10 mi) west of the regional capital Olsztyn.
Before 1772 the area was part of Kingdom of Poland, 1772-1945 Prussia and Germany (East Prussia).
The name is derived from the ancient Prussian word wangus, meaning "Oak Forest"[2].
The village is home to the Village Theatre of Węgajty (Teatr Wiejski Węgajty), an international theatre group which stages an annual international theatre festival as well as a number of ethnographic performance projects[3].
