Archery was a popular sport for the higher classes in South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales during the 1860s to the 1890s. It was not as popular in Queensland. Despite this, some women in Queensland played the sport in places like Yandilla. The sport was viewed as socially acceptable for women because it did not involve rigorous exercise. The sport was also a mixed gendered one, where men and women would compete against each other.[1]
