The Witton Park High School is a comprehensive secondary school in the west of Blackburn.

Admissions

It is for ages 11-16. It is near Witton Country Park, to the east of Blackburn. A levels are taken at Blackburn College. It has GNVQ courses in Business, Art, Leisure & Tourism. In each year there are eight forms.

History

It was originally called Blackburn High School for Girls, a grammar school. It was first at Spring Mount on Preston New Road from 1883, then moved to Crosshill. It moved to Buncer Lane (B6447) in 1961. It became comprehensive in 1968, when it merged with Witton Park Secondary Modern School, which was next-door.

In January 2011, Balfour Beatty started to construct the new building in association with Building Schools for the Future.

Academic performance

Based on prior levels of attainment Witton Park performs extremely highly and caters for all its students exceptionally well. The school consistently performs at a higher level than other similar schools nationally.
