William Miller Macmillan was a Scottish historian who was the leading scholar of the liberal South African historiography that emerged in the 1920s and started diminishing in the 1970s. A Rhodes Scholar, he was a lecturer at Rhodes University College before leaving for the University of the Witwatersrand.[1] He was a vocal speaker on colonial matters and frequently wrote about the economics of colonial rule.
