William Allen White Children's Book Award

The William Allen White Children's Book Award is an annual book award chosen by Kansas students. It was established by Ruth Garver Gagliardo in 1952, in memory of William Allen White and is administered by Emporia State University.[1] It was the first statewide readers' choice book award in the United States.[2] From 2001, two winners have been chosen each year, one by students in grades 3 to 5 and the other by students in grades 6 to 8. A selection committee nominates a short list of 24 books from which the students choose the winners.[2]
