Wiesendangen is a municipality in the district of Winterthur in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland.

Wiesendangen has an area of 9.5 km2 (3.7 sq mi). Of this area, 54.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 25.4% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 19.8% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.1%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).[3] In 1996[update] housing and buildings made up 11% of the total area, while transportation infrastructure made up the rest (8.7%).[4] Of the total unproductive area, water (streams and lakes) made up 0.1% of the area. As of 2007[update], 13.1% of the total municipal area was undergoing some type of construction.[4]
Wiesendangen has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 4,805.[1] As of 2007[update], 6.9% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. As of 2008[update] the gender distribution of the population was 49.1% male and 50.9% female. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 19%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (95.3%), with French being second most common ( 1.1%) and Italian being third ( 1.0%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 37.4% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the FDP (15.1%), the SPS (13.6%) and the CSP (12.7%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 24.8% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 59.9% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 15.3%. In Wiesendangen about 86.6% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule). There are 1634 households in Wiesendangen.[4]
Wiesendangen has an unemployment rate of 1.25%. As of 2005[update], there were 114 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 40 businesses involved in this sector. 159 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 25 businesses in this sector. 419 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 96 businesses in this sector.[3] As of 2007[update] 32.2% of the working population were employed full-time, and 67.8% were employed part-time.[4]
As of 2008[update] there were 1117 Catholics and 2563 Protestants in Wiesendangen. In the 2000 census, religion was broken down into several smaller categories. From the census[update], 65.3% were some type of Protestant, with 62% belonging to the Swiss Reformed Church and 3.3% belonging to other Protestant churches. 23.4% of the population were Catholic. Of the rest of the population, 0% were Muslim, 1.9% belonged to another religion (not listed), 1.2% did not give a religion, and 8% were atheist or agnostic.[4]
Wiesendangen-Attikon is a stop of the Zürich S-Bahn on the line S8.
