West European Politics is a journal of comparative politics focusing on Western Europe, founded in 1978 and serving as one of the main publication venues in that field.[1] Its founding editors were Vincent Wright and Gordon Smith; the current editors are Peter Mair and Klaus Goetz. All articles are subject to editorial screening and peer-review. Its Impact Factor in 2006 was 0.456.

Wright died of cancer in 1999, and Gordon Smith died after a stroke ten years later.

Vincent Wright Memorial Prize

The Vincent Wright Memorial Prize was established in 1999 to honour the memory of Vincent Wright, co-founding editor of West European Politics. Two prizes are awarded annually on the recommendation of members of the Editorial Advisory Board for the best articles published in WEP during the preceding year.
