Waubay is a city in Day County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 576 at the 2010 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.5 square miles (3.9 km2), all land.
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 662 people, 275 households, and 168 families residing in the city. The population density was 454.0 people per square mile (175.1/km²). There were 389 housing units at an average density of 266.8 per square mile (102.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 71.45% White, 25.23% Native American, 0.15% Pacific Islander, and 3.17% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.06% of the population.
There were 275 households out of which 26.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% were married couples living together, 11.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.9% were non-families. 34.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the city the population was spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 19.6% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 24.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
