Dr. med. dent. Walter Karl Friedrich Assmann[Notes 1] (22 July 1896 – 1 May 1964) was a highly decorated Generalleutnant in the Wehrmacht during World War II who commanded the 101. Jäger Division. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Walter Assmann was captured by American troops in 1945 and held until 1947.
