A Toulouse FC youth graduate, Cherfa appeared sparingly for the first team during the 2006–07 season in Ligue 1, subsequently serving a stint with third division team Tours FC.
In August 2008, he moved to Spain, joining Gimnàstic de Tarragona in the second division. On 23 June 2010, after two seasons being sparingly used, he signed a 1+1 deal with another club in the country and category, Girona FC.[1]
In January 2011, without having appeared officially for Girona, Cherfa rescinded his contract with the Catalans and joined Albacete Balompié, also in the Spanish second level. On 16 August, he signed a two-year contract with Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 side MC Alger.[2] On January 1, 2012, he was released from the club.[3]
Cherfa's brother, Sofiane, is also a footballer and a defender. He too played most of his career in France.
