History and origin

Wahlah is spelt in different ways in different parts of the world. For instance, Wahla, Wahlah, Wahala. All of these refer to the same clan, Wahlah, the literal meaning of which is said to be "One Excellent Warrior" (Researched by M.S.Wahlah Advocate - Gojra) . They were said to be the ancient rulers per various ancient traditions, accounts and modern researchers.[2]

Like the Kang and Natt clans of the Jats, the Wahla claim descent from Jogah, a Suryavanshi Rajput, who came from Ayudhia. According to other traditions, they came from Ghazni in Afghanistan.[3]

According to other sources, their origin is in Central Asia..

Distribution

The Wahla are found mainly in Sialkot and Narowal district, in Pakistan, occupying several villages near the Indian border.

Many Wahla have also settled in the canal colony districts, and are now found in Vehari, Khanewal and Faisalabad districts.

In India there are many villages with majority of population with Wahla namely Ghonewahla, machiwahla, changi

& a number of other villages in the area of Distt Amritsar & Gurdaspur.

Religion

The Wahla are predominantly Muslim, having converted to Islam during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. There is however a small minority of Wahla who belong to the Sikh faith. The small amount of Wahla that remained Sikh were warriors to Guru Gobind Singh.
