Wacholder

Wacholder is a German gin, distilled with the juniper essence already added. The word is German for juniper. Wacholder is a speciality of the district of Lippe.

It is strong-flavoured owing to its method of distillation, and is traditionally served chilled as a neat shot, with a beer chaser.

Wacholder is also the name of an East German folk band (1978–2001) established in Cottbus as a sextet. For most of its lifespan its core members were Matthias 'Kies' Kiessling (Kießling), Jörg 'Ko' Kokott and Scarlett Seeboldt. They reunited in 2008 for two tours. In her solo career Seeboldt goes under the name Scarlett O'.
