Waaq (also Waq or Waaqa) is the name of God in the traditional Oromo religion of the Horn of Africa.
In Oromo culture, prior to the introduction of Abrahamic religions, Waaq denoted the single supreme and universal deity. Waaq created the universe with opposing but complementary and interdependent forces (such as night and day, young and old) in fine balance. This balance is called safuu (akin to the concept of Yin and yang), and the well-being of the universe depends on its maintenance.[1]
