WZRK (1550 AM) is a radio station Licensed to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, USA. The station is currently owned by GS RADIO OF ILLINOIS, LLC . WZRK currently plays the syndicated radio format The Avenue and identifies itself as "Avenue 1550". The Avenue format is branded as Timeless Cool, an eclectic mix ranging from classic jazz to contemporary adult pop. WZRK returned to the air in late October 2009, after a period of being silent. The station has recently filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission to change its city of license to Northbrook, Illinois. .[1]

History

The station went on the air as WMIR, (Named after the owners wife, Miriam) in 1964 as a daytime only signal. Music, local news and sports was the original programming. WMIR was then sold to Walt-West Wisconsin in 1995 and sports format began which resulted in the call letters being changed to WAUX. It was known as the "Sports Radio Double Play" as the programming was simulcast from co-owned 1510 AM in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The station was then silent for a period of time until being sold to Relevant Radio and then returned to the air with a Catholic teaching and talk format. On 2001-11-12, the station changed its call sign to the current WZRK.[2]
