The station went on the air as WMZD on May 10, 2004. On March 9, 2006, the station changed its call sign to WSGA and on March 16, 2006 to the current WSSJ,[2] The station switched from a New AC (NAC)/Smooth Jazz format to Gospel music on March 19, 2008.
This station is one of nine that are the subject of litigation over the ownership and control of Tama Broadcasting[1]. A New York court has appointed a receiver named Scott Savage who has applied for involuntary transfer of the station licenses. The FCC consented to the assignment of the licenses to Savage (as receiver), on February 26, 2009.
