WRDE-LD is the MyNetworkTV and RTV-affiliated television station for the Delmarva Peninsula that is licensed to Rehoboth Beach. Owned by Price Hill Television, it airs a low-powered digital signal on UHF channel 31 from a transmitter southwest of Lewes on Wil King Road. They can also be seen on Comcast digital channel 9 (hence the My RTV 9 branding) and Mediacom digital channel 99. WRDE has studios on Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach. Like all RTV affiliates in the Eastern Time Zone, the station airs Daytime for an hour weekday mornings at 9. In addition, they show Atlantic Coast Conference sports and Philadelphia Phillies baseball games.
The station began operating at low-power after signing-on as W59DZ on May 5, 2004. It upgraded its signal in 2005 and became known as WRDE-LP. When viewing the now defunct signal on UHF channel 59, a scroll with the station name and call sign was scrolling across the screen. This was done in order to meet the deadline for Federal Communications Commission approval to keep the license for WRDE. It was broadcasting from a transmitter at the Nassau Valley Vineyard directly off of the Coastal Highway by the Nassau Bridge.
Originally, it planned to air a digital broadcast on UHF channel 31 from the same tower but station officials decided instead to originate from the WGMD-FM tower southwest of Lewes. That reaches as far north as Smyrna/Dover; as far east as Wildwood, New Jersey; as far south as Ocean City, Maryland; and as far west as Seaford, Delaware. It was not until October 2008 that it appeared on digital cable line-ups in the area. The station began airing programming from MyNetworkTV and RTV on November 1.
WRDE became the fifth affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies' over-the-air television network in 2009. They receive MyNetworkTV and Phillies games from WPHL-TV in Philadelphia. Although it does not air any news programming, there are weather updates provided by an unknown meteorologist. Before adding network shows, WRDE offered prizes to viewers who came up with programming ideas for the station.
