WPLZ (95.3 FM) is a country music formatted radio station licensed to Ooltewah, Tennessee, USA, and serves the Chattanooga area. The station is currently owned by J. L. Brewer Broadcasting of Cleveland, LLC.[1]
WPLZ has their home studio at the Chattanooga offices of Brewer Broadcasting at 1305 Carter Street[2], along with sister stations Power 94, Groove 93 and Alive 105. The station once featured longtime talk host Max Hackett during morning drive and another long time talker, Jay "Jammer" Scott in afternoon drive. It was reported in the December 17th issue of the Chattanooga Times/Free Press that all current staff will be let go at the end of 2011. WPLZ will be changing to a new format, which has not been divulged yet. Station owner Jim Brewer has cited economics and inability to compete with Clear Channel and Cumulus deep corporate pockets.
The station carried the Jack FM format until May 1, 2009, when it switched to News/Talk.
On January 2, 2012 WPLZ changed their format to country, branded as "Cat Country 95.3".
