WNBC-DT2 (known on air as New York Nonstop) is a 24-hour entertainment-oriented news service broadcasting on a digital television subchannel of WNBC (Channel 4) in New York City. Originally conceived as an all-news rival to the established New York 1 cable news television channel from Time Warner Cable, New York Nonstop provides entertainment and lifestyle features with news updates every 15 minutes.

Both New York Nonstop and WNBC are owned and operated by NBCUniversal and are based in the GE Building at Rockefeller Center in the New York City borough of Manhattan.

History

On May 7, 2008, NBC Universal announced plans for a major restructuring of WNBC's news department (including moving from Studio 6B To 7E). The centerpiece of the restructuring would be the creation of a 24-hour all-news channel, which would operate on WNBC's second digital subchannel (4.2). Channel 4's current news operations would be revamped and melded into the all-news channel, which serves as a "content center" for the station's various local distribution platforms.

The digital news channel, named New York Nonstop, launched on March 9, 2009. With the success of this format, other NBC-owned & operated stations soon followed suit, replacing "NBC Plus" on their secondary digital channels. In Fall 2010, WRC-TV launched NBC Washington Nonstop, WCAU-TV launched NBC Philadelphia Nonstop, and WMAQ-TV launched NBC Chicago Nonstop. On May 2011, stations in California (KNBC-Los Angeles, KNTV-San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, & KNSD-San Diego) and in Dallas-Fort Worth, TX (KXAS) launched NBC California Nonstop and NBC DFW Nonstop respectively. Days later, WTVJ launched NBC Miami Nonstop.

Current programs

New York Nonstop's programming is a mix of taped news and weather updates (which are broadcast every 15 minutes), and programs produced in-house by sister companies WNBC, NBC News and LXTV.
