WNAC-DT2 is the MyNetworkTV-affiliated television station for the state of Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts. The station is a second digital subchannel of Fox affiliate WNAC-TV owned by Super Towers and operated through a local marketing agreement (LMA) by the LIN TV Corporation. Over-the-air, it broadcasts a standard definition digital signal on VHF channel 12.2 (or virtual channel 64.2 via PSIP) from a transmitter on Homestead Avenue in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. WNAC-DT2 can also be seen on Verizon FiOS channel 14, Comcast digital channel 292, and Cox digital channel 811.

There is a high definition feed provided on Verizon FiOS digital channel 514, Comcast digital channel 820, and Cox digital channel 1015. Although its parent station has studios on Catamore Boulevard in East Providence, master control is based at the Broadcast Center facilities of NBC affiliate WWLP in the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, Massachusetts next to the I-391/MA 116 interchange. Syndicated programming on WNAC-DT2 includes American Dad!, How I Met Your Mother, My Name Is Earl, and Anderson among others. Each day early in the morning, this station simulcasts programming with its parent.

History

The station first became active as a 24-hour local weather channel known as "Eyewitness News Pinpoint Weather Station". This became offered exclusively on Cox digital channel 125 in 2007 when new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations for educational programing and emergency broadcasts forced WNAC to make the weather channel cable-only. Overnight during weekends when the main channels of WNAC and WPRI signed-off, they simulcasted this 24-hour weather channel. After the loss of that service, WNAC-DT2 became a live non-audio feed of WPRI's weather radar "Pinpoint Doppler 12".

On October 1, 2009, this station became the market's MyNetworkTV affiliate after the service was moved from the main WNAC feed. [1] Before this change, it had aired the network in a secondary manner delaying weeknight prime time programming from 11:30 to 1:30 in the morning and the network's Saturday prime time programming until early Sunday mornings from 12:30 to 2:30. As of 2011, WNAC-DT2 has begun televising local college basketball games on Wednesdays under the banner "Game Night". [2] Weekday afternoons at 2, this station repeats The Rhode Show seen earlier in the day on the main station.
