WIIC-LP
For the former WIIC-TV, see
WPXI.
WIIC-LP is a low-power television station in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, broadcasting locally on channel 29 from facilities in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh. WIIC-LP is a former affiliate of MTV2. Like most over-the-air MTV2 affiliates, it was an affiliate of The Box until that network's acquisition by Viacom in 2001. The station is owned by Abacus Television Network.
After leaving MTV2, WIIC-LP aired programming from NOYZ, a hybrid music/text messaging channel, until the station went silent in late 2007 (NOYZ ceased operations a few months later). The station's license was initially canceled in 2010; however, Abacus Television Network filed a petition of reconsideration, and the WIIC license was reinstated in Fall 2011.
The WIIC callsigns are a direct reference to the city's longtime NBC affiliate WPXI, whose callsigns were WIIC-TV from 1957 to 1981.
