History

Volt was founded in 1950 by brothers William and Jerome Shaw. With an initial capital investment of $13, the company began as a technical documentation firm in New York City. In 1956, Volt expanded to include staffing services and began providing clients with temporary technical specialists. As the company grew, the Shaw’s continually expanded their service offerings to provide broader range of business solutions, including an array of workforce management services, telecom, IT, printing, publishing, and more. (See business unit list below.)

Volt Information Sciences’ current President and Chief Executive Officer is Steven A. Shaw. Founder Jerome Shaw continues to serve as Executive Vice President and Secretary.

On Wednesday, January 26, 2011, the company was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange for failing to file its November 1, 2009 Form 10-K and certain other filings. On the same day, Volt announced that its common stock would commence trading on the over-the-counter market under VISI.[3]
