LCC Air Volga (Russian: ООО «Авиакомпания Во́лга») was an airline with its head office in the Omega Plaza (Омега Плаза) business centre in Moscow, Russia.[1] It operated scheduled services from its base at Volgograd International Airport to cities in Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

History

The airline was established in 1992 from the former Aeroflot Volgograd Division. Originally it was known as Volga Airlines, which was later changed to Volga-Aviaexpress (Russian: ООО «Волга Авиа-экспресс»), before once again adopting a new name, Air Volga. [2] On 1 April, 2010, Air Volga declared bankruptcy. Its fleet of four Bombardier CRJ200 (seating 50 passengers)[3] and most routes (including the Volgograd base) were taken over by RusLine.[4]

On 24 August 2004, the 34 passengers and 9 crew members on board Volga-AviaExpress Flight 1303 died when the aircraft (a Tupolev Tu-134A aircraft, registered RA-65080) was destroyed by a bomb planted by Chechen terrorists.
