Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld

Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld (born December 1984 in Paris, France) is an art dealer and curator and the founder of Feedback Ltd., a private art dealership based in Manhattan.

Early life

Vladimir was born in Paris, France. He is the son of Christian Restoin and Carine Roitfeld, French journalist, fashion stylist, and the former editor-in-chief of French Vogue. He has an older sister, Julia Restoin Roitfeld.^[1] Vladimir's godfather is photographer Mario Testino.

Education

Vladimir moved to New York City at age 17 to study English and prepare for college. He eventually graduated from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts in 2007. Subsequently, he worked as an assistant producer for Paramount Pictures, before making the transition into the art world.^[2]

Career

His first exhibition which he curated was in February 2009 in New York, sponsored by Louis Vuitton, which contributed $50,000. Coinciding with Fashion Week, it featured photographs by three of Roitfeld’s friends: P.C. Valmorbida, David Mushegain, and Salim Langatta.^[3][4][5]

Roitfeld and business partner Andy Valmorbida currently represent artists Richard Hambleton and strret artist Retna (né Marquis Lewis). Vladimir also represents French painter Nicolas Pol.

Roitfeld invented the method of "pop-up" galleries in which museum-style exhibitions have been installed in industrial spaces in New York, London, Paris, and Milan. He has worked on exhibitions with the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.^[6][7][8]

At the 17th annual Cinema Against Aids amfAR gala in Cannes in 2010, Roitfeld collaborated with amfAr-supporter Giorgio Armani on contributing to the organization's auction tent, which included an exhibition of works by Richard Hambleton, whom Paper magazine recently called “The Godfather of Street Art.” Roitfeld and Andy Valmorbida curated the collection and donated two rare pieces to the event. Auctioneer Simon de Pury moderated the bidding and the lots brought a combined total of $920,000.^[6][8][9] The world tour of the exhibition continued in Milan, Moscow, and London before the final installment in New York in September 2011, at Phillips de Pury. The exhibition displayed 50 of Hambleton’s works, as well as 20 images of the artist's work chronicled by photographer Hank O’Neal.^[10]
