History

Vita is a town in Maharashtra in Sangli District. Folklore relates that the buildings in the town were constructed of a single magic brick (vit) that multiplied over the course of a night.

Politics

Mr. Anilbhau Babar is one of the prominent sociopolitical personalities of Vita (Khanapur taluka). Mr. Babar is a founder member of Khanapur Taluka Spinning Mill of which he is chairman at present. Mr. Babar is the chairman of the Jeevan Prabodhini, an umbrella institution under which the present MCA College is marching towards advancement and progress.

Born in a common agriculturist family having an ordinary socio-economic background, Mr. Babar hails from the village Gardi of Khanapur Taluka. He is an integrated personality, having zeal for social work, an optimistic approach and a philanthropic attitude. In the year 1972, the year marked forever as the worst known famine, Mr. Babar was elected as a member of ZP Sangli and became Sabhapati of Construction Committee. In the year 1982, he was elected as Sabhapati of Panchayat Samity Khanapur unanimously, where he held the post continuously for the span of 8 years. In 1990, he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra State. During his tenure of Legislative Assembly, Mr. Babar has significantly benefited the Khanapur and Atpdai Taluka, being his constituency, in the field of agriculture, education, irrigation, soil conservation, social forestry and particularly Tembhu Lift Irrigation – an ambitious project proving to be fruitful for the 4 adjoining talukas of the district. In the year 1991, Mr. Anil Babar was elected as a chairman of the Yashwant Sahakari Sugar Co-Operative Factory, Nagewadi, Tal – Khanapur. He was Chairman for 2 subsequent terms, i.e., 10 years. Mr. Babar was again elected as a MLA in the year 1990 for the second time. Considering his talent, abilities and attitude of devotion, he was appointed as the chairman of National Heavy Engineering Co-Operative Ltd., New Delhi where he could leave his impress for the period of 8 years.

The present Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is Shri. Sadabhau Patil.
