Vista Equity Partners is a private equity firm focused on investing in software and technology-enabled businesses.[1] The firm was founded in 2000[2] and is headquartered in San Francisco, California with additional offices in Chicago, Illinois and Austin, Texas.[1] Vista Equity Partners currently holds approximately $6 billion in committed equity capital.[3] Vista Equity Partners is a low volume, high value-add firm that makes only a limited number of investments per year.[4]

History

Vista Equity Partners was founded in 2000 by Robert F. Smith and Brian Sheth. Prior to co-founding Vista Equity, Smith was the co-Head of the Enterprise Systems and Storage sector for Goldman, Sachs & Co.’s investment banking division. Smith also served as the business unit manager for Goldman’s Mergers and Acquisitions group.[5] Brian Sheth also worked in Mergers and Acquisitions at Goldman, Sachs & Co. The two were later joined by Jamie Ford, also from Mergers and Acquisitions at Goldman, to become the companies COO.[6]

In 2006, the company welcomed former Microsoft employee and protégé of CEO Steve Ballmer, Martin Taylor.[7] Taylor was brought on as an Operating Principal and President of Vista Consulting Group.[8]

Vista in currently invested in (15) software companies with over 10,000 employees worldwide. In aggregate, the Vista portfolio of companies is the world's 10th largest software company.<need reference>
