Geography

Vissani is situated in a mountainous area near the Albanian border. It is built 750 m above sea level, in an area with many chestnut trees.

History

The main origin of the name which was also mentioned by Hesiod comes from the word bissa (Βήσσα) which topologically ties with the word origin.

Vissani was founded around the 13th century, it was later ruled by the Ottomans and during that time, it was the cultural capital of the Pogoni region. It became a part of Greece after the Balkan Wars in 1913 though the rule did not end until 1918 during World War II after the battle. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, its buildings were rebuilt, emigration occurred for the next few decades to the powerful nations and continued well after the turn of the millennium, one exception was between 1991 and 2001.

The village houses demonstrate economic and spritiual progress in the area. They were built by Epirot builders from the renowned builder village of Pyrsogianni and Vourbiani. It was built between the flattened balcoky with (folded walls?) and wooden doors which had a valve roof. Many scientists and distinguished persons with all of its cutting of common and artwork life descended
