Vilamendhoo was one of the uninhabited islands of Alif Dhaal Atoll or South Ari Atoll of the Maldives. Now this island has been developed into a 5 star resort and is managed by CCR (Crown & Champa Resorts). Some of the best diving points in Maldives are located in Ari Atoll.

A reef encircles the island, with stray reef sprouts above and below. Most tourists, normally british, reach the island by means of sea-plane, but some do choose to use boats, especially if partaking in a cruise.

Due to the rise in temperature caused by La Niña the coral died but is starting to return. Also, as the sea life returns, so do many sea creatures such as sharks and turtles. The island boasts a formidable, fully equipped, Eurodivers centre, offering many courses for divers with a range of experiences. The centre can also communicate in a variety of languages including English, Dutch, German, French, amongst others.

Whilst there is much life in the ocean, there are also many exotic creatures living on the island. Many types of birds can be seen, and are very docile. There are also bats, large fruit bats, which hang from the trees eating or sleeping during the day.
