Versailles High School is a public high school in Versailles, Ohio, Darke county. The principal of the building is Mr. Roger McEldowney. It is the only high school in the Versailles Exempted Village Schools district. Their school Mission Statement is " The purpose of the Versailles Exempted Village School District is to create an environment for each student that provides opportunities to develop into lifelong learners with the skills, attitudes, knowledge, and ethics necessary to become a self-directed and contributing member of society." Their mascot is the tiger. They are a member of the Midwest Athletic Conference. Versailles high school offers grades 7-12. A new building, intended to house all grades, is currently being built; construction began in 2008 progress on the new school can be followed by referring to the references listed below. [4] Currently, there are two elementary buildings. Versailles Elementary School, and Versailles North Star Elementary School,each includes grades k-4 and the building principal is Mrs. Brenda Braun. There is one middle school, Versailles Middle School (grades 5-6); principal Mrs. Jeanne Osterfeld. According to the district Superintendent, Mr. David Vail, enrollment throughout the district has been steady for the past five years averaging about 1400 students per year, and the enrollment number is projected to increase slightly over the next three years. Versailles High School is a top contender in numerous varsity sports with state championships in football and cross-country most recently. Though other varsity sports at Versailles have not earned the state title in their respective sports, they are still top competitors placing as runner-ups in track and field and state semi-finalists in basketball during the 2008-2009 school year.[6]
