Valestrandfossen[1] or Valestrandsfossen[2] is a settlement on the island municipality of Osterøy, Hordaland, Norway.
Valestrandfossen is the largest settlement on the island. It is located by the Sørfjorden fjord and is connected by the ferry MF Ole Bull to Åsane in Bergen on the other side of the fjord.[3] The Valestrandfossen urban settlement, as defined by Statistics Norway, had a population of 1,012 on January 1, 2008.[4]
The famous Norwegian violinist and composer Ole Bull had his summer house here. In 1858, he bought a farm in Valestrand .The house was designed during 1865 by his youngest brother, architect Georg Andreas Bull. Ole Bull lived there for a time principally between tours. In 1872 he bought property on Lysøen in Os near Bergen which became the primary residence of his family.
