Valavanur is a panchayat town in Viluppuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is stituated near to the Tamil Nadu-Pondicherry border on NH 45A.

As of 2001[update] India census,[2] Valavanur had a population of 14,037. Males constitute 60% of the population and females 40%. Valavanur has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 67%. In Valavanur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.The area is mainly dependent on manufacturing and exporting tapioca chips to other states.The is a considerable amount of sugarcane cultivation done here due to presence of many sugarcane factories nearby.People here go to work in Sunfeast biscuit factory,Rajshree sugars.
The main place of interest is the "Angalamman Temple" which is the main worship place for people here.Every year a local festival called "Mayana pooja" is held here for one week for which people from many places come and watch.
Valavanur is on the national highway (NH 45A) from Villupuram to Nagapattinam via Pondicherry. It is about 30 km from Pondicherry. There are plenty of buses running from Villupuram to Pondicherry which stop at Valavanur.
Valavanur is a railway station on the Villupuram–Pondicherry railway line. There are daily passenger trains from both cities passing here. It is also connected to Chennai and Tirupati by fast passenger trains. Being a halt stop, express trains do not stop here. The nearest major railway station is Villupuram (8 km).
