Vakkom, വക്കം (in Malayalam), is a village in the Thiruvananthapuram district in the state of Kerala, India.[2] It is located 35 kilometers north of Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital. Vakkom panchayat is surrounded by back waters (Kayal). Neighbouring Panchayats are Anjengo, Kadakkavoor, Vettoor, Cherunniyoor and Manampoor. The nearest towns, within 9 km are Varkala and Attingal.
The total area of Vakkom is 5.06 km2 and the total population, as per the census 2001, is 17640 with an effective literacy rate of 90.6%.
As of 2001[update] India census, Vakkom had a population of 20899 with 9485 males and 11414 females.[2]
