Vadodara Railway Station is the main station in the city of Vadodara, Gujarat, India. It is the busiest Railway Station of Gujarat and one of the most busiest stations in the nation. The station is a major stop on the western railway zone of Indian railways. It has two railway lines, a straight line between Ahmedabad and Mumbai & the other being the line to New Delhi via Ratlam,Kota and Mathura. Trains going towards northern region uses the Ratlam line while all the other trains use the Ahmedabad-Mumbai line like Ahemdabad Shatabdi,Delhi Sarai Rohilla Garib Rath, Gujarat Mail,Karnavati Express,Suryanagari Express,Ranakpur Express etc..The prestigious trains Mumbai Rajdhani,August Kranti Rajdhani,Trivandrum Rajdhani,Golden Temple Mail, Avantika Express etc.

The station was originally built in 1861 for Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway company by then ruler Maharaja Khanderao Gaekwad. The existing building was newly constructed by Indian Railways in 1954 by demolishing original smaller station. The Railway station celebrated 150 years of establishment on 9th January 2010.

It is a fairly big railway stations with 7 platforms on main line i.e. Platform 1,2,3,4,5,6 & 7. Platform No. 7 acts as a terminus for some passenger and MEMU trains and facilitates reversing of some trains like 9309/9310 Shanti Express, Gujarat Sampark Kranti etc. which use the Vadodara Delhi line as well as the Vadodara Ahmedabad line. An average of 81 trains inclusive of freight trains pass through the station every day.It has many amenities that a Important station should have like Waiting Halls, Refreshment Stalls, Computerized Reservation Center, Large Vehicle Parking, Retiring Rooms for Passengers etc.

Vadodara has one of the largest electric loco sheds in Western Railway zone. The loco shed houses around 130+ locomotives which includes WAP-4, WAM-4, WAG-5 locomotives. Recently a WAP-5 30045 was transferred to the Vadodara Electric Loco Shed. Additionally it also has an AC electric trip shed to house locos coming from other sheds and an AC/DC dual loco trip shed which houses WCAM class locomotives from Valsad shed which caters locomotive change at Vadodara because the trains coming from New Delhi mainline are AC Locomotives and the trains going to Mumbai need AC/DC Loco. as Mumbai is under DC supply from before Borivali.

IT also has a MEMU car shed which houses the Mainline Electric Multiple units which provides feeder services to Ahmedabad, Surat, Dahod and Godhra Jn.

There is usually big crowds in this train during Vacations as it is the only train originating from Vadodara for Mumbai. There is a great need for another train like this but since many years Vadodara is not getting any new trains either to Mumbai nor to New Delhi or further North. But trains are just snatched from Vadodara. The Bandra-Vadodara Sayajinagri Express and Vadodara-Gandhidham Intercity were merged and Vadodara lost a train to Mumbai. Also recently Vadodara-Valsad SF Intercity was extended to Dahod on Vadodara-Ratlam Line.
