Vallurupalli Nageswara Rao Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology (VNRVJIET) is an engineering college in Hyderabad, India recognized by All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE) and affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. It is often referred to as VNR College or Vignana Jyothi Engineering College or VNRVJIET.

As of July 2010, the institute's intake is 720 students towards B. Tech program, 180 towards its M. Tech program and 240 Towards Polytechnic program (from 2009), with 140 dedicated faculty.

Purpose

VNRVJIET attempts to integrate classroom learning with industry exposure to ensure the application of knowledge during the course of study it self. VNRVJIET focuses on high quality education and research in the fields of Science,Technology and Engineering.

The objective is to prepare young students to act as leaders for the promotion of the economic and industrial growth of the country and to play a creative role in society. The four-year course is so structured that it leads to a linear growth and progressive insight into the engineering subjects as well as training in soft skills.

VNRVJIET focuses on imparting skills on cutting-edge technologies to our students. Quality research in the areas of science and technology is given considerable importance here. Its major strength comes by forging strong industry–academic linkage.

History

It was established in 1995 by a registered non-profit education society "Vignana Jyothi". The institute started primarily as an undergraduate college offering coursework towards a B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) degree. In 2003, the institute started offering coursework towards M.Tech (Master of Technology) degree. Recently it has been accredited by the National Board of accreditation(NBA) for all the courses in July 2008.

Achievements

Football team of VNRVJIET has achieved an excellent feat winning a Gold Medal at the Central Zone (JNTUH) in the month of March 2011.

Awarded by CSI as Best Student Branch in Region V (Awarded for the year 2009)at CSI National Convention held in Mumbai on 25th,26th and 27th November 2010.

Awarded by ISTE as Best Chapter in Andhra Pradesh (Function was held on 18th December 2009) at its 39th ISTE Convention function to be held at NIT Surathkal, Karnataka.

Athletics

The institute has a dedicated sports complex for use of students. It features a hardwood court for playing basketball or badminton, dedicated rooms for table tennis , cue sports, carroms, chess, gym with showers and locker (cabinet). The college is equipped with a common football and cricket ground, a basketball court, volleyball court. The institute students have won many national events.

Library

The Library is located in the ground floor of Vellanki Rama Rao Bhavan having a plinth area of 1500 sq. m. The library holds over 9098 titles, 41,237 books, 76 Indian journals and 782 International journals (Including Online Journals) and 1750 audio-visual materials. The students also have access to 32 magazines and 8 newspapers (6-English, 2-Telugu).

The college is also equipped with a Digital Library having access to thousands of Downloaded Articles useful to Engineering Graduates. All the computers are well equipped with Internet connectivity. Students can use the library for 12 Hours a day from 8 am to 8 pm.

Events

Apart from the annual events of annual day, cultural day and sports day, the institute hosts other technical events for engineers to display their innovation.

"Convergence 2K11".. Experience Innovation... Has been held on 14th,15th and 16th of Feb 2011 by VNRJVJIET in association with AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) with a huge scale of participation. It has taken up an untrodden path on its way to be stupendous, throwing light on new ideas.It brings in a series of events and activities spread over three days involving the students of myriad disciplines and hence broadening their horizons.

A workshop on "Intellectual Property Management and Technopreneurship" was conducted by Department of Mechanical Engineering on November 20th and 21st 2009

Sintillashunz

It is a 3 day cultural event featuring performances by various artists and inter-collegiate cultural (including Literary, Music & Performance Arts) competitions.

In Feb 2011 Sintillashunz'11 was held on the 17th, 18th and 19th. There were performances by classical violinist A. Kanyakumari,Concerts by Benny Dayal Benny Dayal and Motherjane.

In the year 2008, Sintillashunz'08 was held with performance by Bombay Rockers.

In 2007, the first day was a choreo night. The second day witnessed performance by Naresh Iyer. The final day witnessed a performance by Sonu Nigam.

The events have been a huge success and are one-of-a-kind event to be held at an engineering colleges of Andhra Pradesh.

Cultural and Magazine Committee

The Cultural and Magazine Committee was established in the academic year 2006/2007. The committee's main responsibilities include: conducting the annual three-day cultural event SINTILLASHUNZ, organizing teams to participate in various Cultural and Technical competitions throughout the country, conduct the Cultural and Annual Day and meet regularly to help in all-round development of the students and give a platform for creative outlet.
