Uthsava or Utsava is derived from Sanskrit word, Utsava, a festival predominantly referring to Hindu religion. Correspondingly, the festival deity, mostly made of metla usually taken during temple festival processions is referred as Utsavar.[1]

Following Vedic seers, the Upanishadic bards declared that God is all peace, auspiciousness and beauty. The temple is intended to act as a centre of community life spreading the concept of joy and happiness, the sense of cheerful optimism all around. This is achieved by the institution of various festivals all year around. Festival is an occasion when the aspects of life like joy, beauty, richness, magnificience, harmony are all emphasised and are brought to the forefront so that they may govern the whole outlook of life.[2]
