Bani Utbah

The Bani Utbah (Arabic: بني عتبة‎banī ʿUtbah) is a tribe, or tribal federation of Arab clans that originated from the region of Najd in central Arabia. The tribe is thought to have been formed when a group of disparate clans migrated from Najd to the Persian Gulf coast sometime in the late seventeenth century.Utub (Arabic: العتوبʿutūb) is the plural name and the singular is Al-Utbi (Arabic: العتبيal-ʿUtbī ). The current ruling families of Bahrain the Al Khalifa and Kuwait (the Al-Sabah0 belong to the 'Utub, though genealogically they trace their descent to the 'Anizzah confederation. Other families of the 'Utub include Al-Roumi, Al-Zayed, and Al-Jalahma are largely based in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. The name has been traced to the Arabic "atab" meaning "wanderer", referring to their migration into the Gulf area in 1744.[1]

Rumors

There has been a large spreaded rumor since 2006 that the mentioned families are not from the Utub or original Utub because they don't carry the Al-Utbi (Arabic: العتبيal-ʿUtbī )last name in their ownership's document, because only the Al Bin Ali carrys them, therefore, Al Bin Ali are the original Utub. But lately, lots of documents for the Al Fadhil family showed that they also, and not only the Al Bin Ali, carry the Al-Utbi (Arabic: العتبيal-ʿUtbī )last name in their ownership's document.[2]

Therefore, Utub is a tribal alliance of tribes and not a tribe in which only the Al Bin Ali is from.
