Urtenen-Schönbühl is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Urtenen-Schönbühl has an area of 7.2 km2 (2.8 sq mi). Of this area, 47.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while 31% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 17.9% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (3.8%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[3]

Demographics

Urtenen-Schönbühl has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 5,646.[1] As of 2007, 16.0% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 10.2%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks German (87.4%), with Serbo-Croatian being second most common ( 2.6%) and Italian being third ( 1.6%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 34.8% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (22.3%), the FDP (13.5%) and the Green Party (9.6%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 22.5% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 66.3% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 11.2%. In Urtenen-Schönbühl about 73.3% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).

Urtenen-Schönbühl has an unemployment rate of 2.18%. As of 2005, there were 49 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 20 businesses involved in this sector. 676 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 38 businesses in this sector. 1839 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 163 businesses in this sector.[3]
