Unusual Heat is a well known Thoroughbred stallion widely regarded as one of the all time leading sires in the history of California Thoroughbred Breeding. He is owned by a syndicate headed by California breeder/owner Madeline Auerbach in conjunction with California trainer Barry Abrams and California breeder David Abrams. In 2010, Unusual Heat had a full book and stood for $20,000 (lfg). For 2011, Unusual Heat will stand at Harris Farms in Coalinga, CA with a stud fee TBA.

Unusual Heat stands 16 hands tall and is officially a dark bay or brown horse according to The Jockey Club of America. He was foaled in 1990 and is currently 20 years old.
Unusual Heat is by Nureyev out of the Glacial mare Rossard (Den). Nureyev is known in thoroughbred breeding circles as a "sire of sires" and has produced many notable offspring including champions Theatrical, Miesque, Heart Lake and Spinning World. Rossard was a Group 1 winning mare in Europe and a Grade 1 winner in North America. Unusual Heat is the only stakes winning foal out of Rossard.
Unusual Heat was a multiple stakes race winner of $143,707. He won 6 races between the ages of 2 and 6. His most notable victories came in the 1993 Amehtyst Stakes and 1994 Platinum Stakes. He was trained in his racing career by notable thorougbred trainers Dermot Weld, Richard Mandella and Barry Abrams.
Unusual Heat retired from racing in 1996 and has stood at stud since 1998. He currently has 11 crops of racing age with career earnings of over $29.8 Million[1]. His accomplishments at stud are unparalleled in the history of California breeding including holding the record for progeny earnings in a single year with $5,827,513[2] in 2008. He followed that up with progeny earnings of $5,184,194 in 2009[2] and is currently the leading sire of 2010 with earnings in excess of $2.8 million[3]. Unusual Heat has also been the leading turf sire in California by earnings an astonishing 6 times in a row (2004–2009) and is the current year leader as well(as of 8/9/2010)[4].
Unusual Heat has produced 29 stakes winners including 4 Grade 1 winners, 1 Group 1 winner (Mexico) and 6 other graded stakes winners. He has sired 83 winners of $100,000 or more out of just 352 lifetime starters.[5]
