University of Waterloo Stratford Campus

The Waterloo Stratford Campus is a satellite campus of the University of Waterloo in the City of Stratford, Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Faculty of Arts. The central areas of study include digital media and global enterprise – a study of business on the international stage covering the disciplines of political science, economics, history and culture.[1][2]

The Waterloo Stratford Campus is currently found at 6 Wellington St., Stratford. In 2012, the Campus will move to a new building on Patrick St., Stratford.[3][4][5]

Programs

Master of Digital Experience Innovation (MDEI)

The first program at the Waterloo Stratford Campus begins in the fall of 2011. The Master of Digital Experience Innovation (MDEI) is an interdisciplinary, professional full-year program. Combining creativity, technology and business, students have the opportunity to work on projects with students, faculty and industry partners. MDEI offers project based courses in business strategy that deal with innovation and digital media scope and design over three consecutive terms. Whether students backgrounds and previous degrees are in Arts, Engineering, Math or Business, the MDEI program is able to mold a students career path in the fast paced ever changing digital industry. †

Unique teaching models, project-based and client driven assignments within a creatively intense atmosphere will help students create digital innovations.

MDEI students will work directly with faculty and industry experts on projects throughout the year

Global Business and Digital Arts (GBDA)

The Global Business and Digital Arts (GBDA)program begins in the fall of 2012. This undergraduate program allows students to engage in studies of globalization, cultural issues, business ethics, economics and marketing while immersed in a project-based and problem-driven learning environment. Students will interact with leading academics, businesses, industry researchers, and policy makers in the digital media field. Through in-class projects students will develop project management, leadership, team collaboration and digital design skills that are in high demand.

Students will explore global business and digital design opportunities, develop solutions to social problems, and discover new forms of cultural expressions.

Working in teams with an assigned coach, students will learn to manage design projects from start to delivery, developing skills that range from critical conceptualization and technical troubleshooting, to cross-cultural communication and global marketing.

From challenges arising within cross-cultural communication, business ethics, emerging digital media technologies, global economies, and marketing, students will be given the opportunity to propose innovative solutions and test them.

Activities

The University of Waterloo Stratford Campus hosts many events in Stratford, including the largest one, Canada 3.0 with the Canadian Digital Media Network. Based on the findings of the first annual Canada 3.0, a Digital Declaration was delivered to Ottawa[25]
