The University of Sargodha was established in 2002 by an ordinance of the Government of Pakistan Formerly, it was called the Government College, Sargodha. Riaz ul Haq Tariq was First Vice Chancellor from 2002 to 2007, then M Akram Chaudhary headed the university from Feb 2007 to 2011 and currently Muhammad Ali is working as the acting Vice-Chancellor of Sargodha University.

History

Demont Morency College was esteblished at Shahpur Sadr in 1929, Later it was renamed to Govt. College Sargodha, at Shahpur before partition. The College was shifted to Sargodha in 1946.

In 1987-88, post graduate classes were introduced at Govt. College in the disciplines of English, Urdu, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Islamic Studies, History.

In November 2002, College was renamed to the University of Sargodha.
