The United States Penitentiary (USP) Big Sandy, located in unincorporated Martin County, Kentucky, near Inez,[3] is a high security facility housing male inmates. An adjacent minimum security satellite prison camp also houses male inmates. It was completed in 2003.[1]
USP Big Sandy, located between Paintsville and Prestonburg.[3] is in eastern Kentucky, approximately 133 miles (214 km) from Frankfort, 140 miles (230 km) from Lexington, and 321 miles (517 km) from Washington, D.C..[4]
It is in the Judicial District of Eastern Kentucky.
The nearest commercial airports are in Huntington, West Virginia, Lexington, Kentucky, Louisville, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, Ohio.[3]
