Ulvila (Swedish: Ulvsby) is a town and municipality of Finland. It is one of the six medieval cities of Finland. Its position as city was taken over by Pori in the 16th century.
The name Ulvila comes from Ulvi, the Fennicised version of the personal name Ulf, with the Finnish placename derivational marker -la/-lä.[6] The Swedish name Ulvsby has a similar meaning of "Ulf's village". Both can be roughly Anglicised as "Ulfsville".
It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Satakunta region. The municipality has a population of 13,604 (31 January 2011)[2] and covers an area of 422.52 square kilometres (163.14 sq mi) of which 21.82 km2 (8.42 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 33.95 inhabitants per square kilometre (87.9 /sq mi).
The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
